Bark Board Manual

Bark Board is a VST instrument  designed to creatively filter MIDI channels. It does not make any sound by itself, but by routing midi through it you can control any MIDI capable instrument, be it software or hardware. Use it to make custom keyboard splits for stage or studio. It is made to be quick to alter and easy to understand. You can also add randomness to your midi channel selections per note. Read on to find out how to use it.

1. NOTE GRID
In the note grid you decide which notes goes to which MIDI channels. Every column represents a note across all possible octaves.
The note names are indicated at the bottom row, and the octave numbers in the first column. If you are unsure about which note is which,
simply play some input into the plugin and the corresponding note will show up. To enter a channel into a note simply click it. You can also click the octave column to select all notes of an octave, or the note row to select every octave of a note.

2. CHANNEL SELECTOR
This selects the channel that you use to "draw" into the note grid with. The OCTAVE knob and RANDOM slider is connected to whichever channel
is currently selected by the CHANNEL selector.

3. OCTAVE OFFSET
This knob sets an octave offset for the channel that is currently selected with the CHANNEL selector.

4. RANDOM
If you right click the note grid a yellow square with an R will appear. This indicates that the note will be randomly set to any of the channels where the random slider is active. The RANDOM slider indicates how likely it is that that particular channel will be selected. You can also CTRL-click (CMD-click on Mac OS) the note grid to choose channels randomly in a static manner. The random selection follows probabilities set by the RANDOM sliders in the same way as with the R squares.

5. SAVE SLOTS
These store any setup currently set in the note grid. Use it to change quickly between setups in the note grid. You can also attach OCTAVE offset and RANDOM slider settings to save slot with the options section in the sidebar.

6. REC BUTTON
Use this to map MIDI notes to the save slots. The mapped notes appear as black squares with an S inside of it. To remove a mapping, simply press the REC button twice.

7. OUTPUTS
These are indicators letting you see at a glance which MIDI channels are active at any time.
